Features
MCP, custom MCP servers and plugins
MCP servers and repository connections give an agent structured access to approved tools. Vector's catalog has 135 connectors — GitHub, Linear, Sentry, Figma, Playwright, Postgres, Stripe, Slack and more — plus any MCP server you add yourself.
Connect a server
Open Plugins or Connections from the workspace rail. Add only services you trust, confirm the permissions they request, and verify the connection before depending on it in a task.
A listed integration is not automatically connected. It becomes available only after its setup succeeds and Vector reports it as active.
- Plugin runtimes that install themselvesA catalog plugin that needs uvx no longer becomes a terminal errand. Vector resolves the runner, installs it through Astral's own installer when it is missing, and rewrites the command to an absolute path so it spawns without a login shell.
- Servers that stop answeringMCP servers that stop answering are recovered instead of wedging the app.
Custom MCP servers from the terminal
vector mcp add registers a server: --url for a remote one with --header KEY=VALUE, or a command with --env KEY=VALUE for a local one. vector mcp list shows every configured server and whether it is reachable.
vector mcp add linear --url https://mcp.linear.app/sse
vector mcp auth linear
vector mcp list
For OAuth-protected servers, vector mcp auth runs the flow, vector mcp auth list shows which servers are OAuth-capable and their status, vector mcp logout drops stored credentials, and vector mcp debug <name> diagnoses a failing connection.
Plugins
vector plugin <module> installs an npm module as a plugin and writes it into your config; --global installs into the global config rather than the repository's, and --force replaces a version already there. A plugin can register extra tools, which the registry merges alongside the built-in ones.
vector plugin @acme/vector-plugin -g
For new settings, use Vector names: vector.json,
vector.jsonc, .vector/, and VECTOR_* variables, which 1.99.99 is the first release to read. It recognizes earlier config files and repository folders by their contents,
imports them into Vector paths once, and preserves originals. Ambiguous or conflicting security
settings require repair before startup. Plugins import @vectordevai/plugin, including its
/tui export. Local plugins and tools can keep a scoped SDK import when that module is unavailable;
Vector supplies its own SDK without replacing a dependency that already resolves. New and published
plugins should use the Vector imports explicitly. Theme manifests prefer vector-themes;
keys ending in -themes remain accepted with the same path validation. The package will be published
before the CLI release that installs it.
--pure on any command runs without external plugins. It is the first thing to try when you suspect one of breaking a run.
