Features

The desktop app

Agent and Editor are two modes over the same local repository and session, with repository-wide file search, diagnostics, a terminal, browser, review, and the same agent beside the file you opened.

Agent and Editor

Switch to Editor when you want to work directly: search the repository, open files in tabs, edit with language support, or keep the same agent beside the file and ask it to make the change.

  • Find a fileUse repository search to open a file full-screen in a persistent tab.
  • Edit normallyYour changes are written to the active repository or isolated workspace.
  • Ask beside the codeThe session does not restart when you switch views, so the agent keeps the task and its history.

The session header can hand the repository to the editor or terminal you already use — Visual Studio Code, Sublime Text, TextMate, Android Studio, Antigravity, Ghostty or the system terminal — or copy the repository path. It also carries the toggles for the file tree, Changes and Terminal.

The composer

The box at the bottom of a session is where you type the task, and it carries every per-message control: which agent answers, which model, how hard that model thinks, how fast to run (see modes), dictation, and attachments. It takes pasted images and dragged files, keeps a history of your prompts you can walk back through, and offers a popover of slash commands. Shell mode sends a command instead of a prompt, and it is refused while Plan Mode is on.

For models that expose reasoning effort, the model popover shows a slider across that model's variants: Default follows the provider's recommendation, Light favours speed and cost on small tasks, Balanced trades speed against careful reasoning, and Max sits at the top of the range. The choice shows on the control, with its description in the tooltip.

Dictation is transcribed by a Whisper model that runs on your machine. The model file is fetched and cached the first time, after which nothing is sent to a cloud speech service.

The session transcript

The conversation is a timeline of turns: your messages, the agent's text, collapsible thinking blocks, tool calls with their status and error cards, and a per-turn summary of how many tools ran.

  • Comment on a lineClick a line inside a code block or a diff in the conversation and attach a comment to it. The comment is carried into your next prompt as context, so "this branch is wrong" is tied to the exact line instead of described in prose. Annotations stay on the block until you send.
  • The todo dockWhile the agent works through a multi-step task, its plan sits as a live checklist above the composer, so the step in progress and the ones still outstanding are visible without scrolling the transcript.

The rail, the palette and search

The slim rail down the left edge is the app's top-level navigation: Home, Agents, Search, Agent Dashboard, Browser, Pull Requests, Plugins, Connections and Settings, with a help cluster for Docs, Best practices, Changelog, Diagnostics, Support and Send feedback.

  • Command paletteSearches every action by category and runs it without the mouse. Shortcuts are editable and can be reset to their defaults, and some actions live only here, such as adding the current file selection to the prompt context.
  • Chat searchA search overlay finds sessions and messages across the workspace, so you can return to a conversation without scrolling the sidebar. It closes on Escape.

Terminal and review

The Terminal runs commands inside the active repository or isolated workspace. Review keeps the files an agent changed, validation results, risk signals and merge controls together, so you can inspect what will land before it touches the primary checkout. See Review and recovery.

Settings

Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar to open Settings at Account, or use the gear beside it, Settings in the Help menu, or Cmd+, (Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux). When an update has downloaded, an Update button takes the gear's place: it restarts Vector into the new version, and first asks whether to stop any agents in the workspace that are still running. From 1.99.109 Home shows the same Update button too, just before its Settings button.

  • AccountYour Vector sign-in, your Vector Codium plan with the share of this month's credits left, and the way to delete your account. Desktop app only; signed out, it offers Sign in.
  • NotificationsDesktop alerts, error alerts and sound effects.
  • AccessibilityInterface scaling, high contrast, reduced motion, visible focus indicators and larger click targets.

Vector has one look, its own dark theme, and shows its interface in your computer's language. Vector Tab, the AI suggestions in the editor, is switched on and off from its label in the editor's status bar; the suggestions use the selected model.

General holds the Share usage counts switch, on by default. While the app is open it reports how many sessions and subagent sessions were active that day (in UTC) and the totals from Usage & streaks: tokens by type, recorded cost, tokens and tasks per day, the models and providers you use with their share of tokens, effort levels, chats and streaks. It checks about once an hour and sends only when something has gone up. Each report carries a random install ID, your Vector account when you are signed in, the app version, operating system and CPU architecture, and never your prompts, code, file names or model output. Turn it off there to stop sending.

Help inside the app

The help panel answers questions without leaving Vector. Its Assistant tab replies only from Vector's own documentation, and says plainly when it cannot reach the service or has nothing to offer rather than inventing an answer; the Documentation tab browses the same material.

Send feedback in the same cluster files a bug report from inside the app, with an optional email address so the team can reply, and tells you when a report could not be delivered.
